The Alumnus of the Year Award recognises and celebrates the achievements of Clare alumni who have made outstanding contributions to society through:

  • Significant charitable work or philanthropy

  • Exceptional contributions to a community, in the UK or abroad

  • Outstanding dedication to the care and/or development of others

  • An act of heroism

The Alumnus of the Year statue: 'Isadora Joy'

The award is a demonstration of the College’s pride in its members, as well as its commitment to encourage both students and alumni to value their contribution to society as highly as their career goals and other aspirations. It was established in 2009 and since then has highlighted the work and achievements of some truly inspiring Clare members.

Alumni are invited to suggest nominees for the award during the summer months. The development team will usually send out several calls for nominations via email. The Alumni Council will then shortlist nominees and select a winner, during Michelmas Term.

The award-winner is invited to accept the award and the Alumnus of the Year statue at the second-year undergraduates' Half-Way Hall dinner, where he or she will also give the keynote address. Click on the photos below to hear recordings of the speeches given by all our Alumnus of the Year award recipients since 2009.
