A message from the Master...

Tony Grabiner speaking to parentsClare is very fortunate to have supportive alumni and friends who have, over the last ten years, donated £26million to the College. Their generosity has ensured that teaching staff, Fellows and, above all, our students have benefitted from the highest quality of education and resources available. Their support has helped us to face the challenges of the future with optimism - but there is still more to be done to ensure that Clare College remains a centre of educational excellence, a true meritocracy and an architectural and historical 'jewel' for all to enjoy.

As the University strives to ensure that Cambridge continues to be one of the top research institutions in the world, it is increasingly important for all its colleges to become financially self-sufficient, and Clare is no exception. Of course, this places some pressure on the financial and teaching support we are able to offer our undergraduates and graduates. Clare College is committed to alleviating this burden for all our students, to ensure that the brightest and the best will always have the opportunity to fulfil their academic potential, regardless of family background or finances.

At the same time, we are preparing to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime refurbishment and development of Old Court. This ambitious project, which will both preserve the College's history and enable it to meet the demands of its future, will require us to find significant additional funding. With outstanding architects appointed, the College surveyed and our fundraising efforts gathering momentum, we have already taken the first steps into this exciting phase of Clare's history.

On behalf of everyone at Clare, we are incredibly grateful for the support we have received in the last decade. £26million is a truly impressive achievement. Without your support, and that of your fellow alumni, Clare College would be a very different institution today. The next nine years will be pivotal for Clare, creating the building blocks of its bright future.

I invite you to join us and become a part of that future.

Tony Grabiner, Master
