Alumnus of the Year 2019: Ms Loretta Minghella
We are delighted to announce this year’s Alumnus of the Year as voted by our Year Group Representatives. Congratulations to Clare alumna Loretta Minghella!
Loretta read Law at Clare and began her career as a criminal litigator, before moving to financial regulation and enforcement. As the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (2004-2010), Loretta administered the repayment of £21bn+ to victims of bank and financial failures. Following the 2008 financial crisis, she was awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list of 2010 for her work in the Financial Services Industry.
She then moved to Christian Aid (2010-2017), where, as their Chief Executive Officer, she oversaw the charity’s responses to natural disasters and famine emergencies, and supported global initiatives focussed on gender equality and climate change. She is currently the First Church Estates Commissioner, overseeing the administration of the Church of England’s assets.
You can listen to her speech at Half Way Hall, held in February for undergraduates who are half way through their degrees, below:
