Supporting Clare
Throughout Clare’s history, members of the
College have made major contributions in all areas of society. As we look to the
future, we must build on these accomplishments and strengthen Clare’s capacity
to make a positive difference.
Year on year,
the costs of sustaining the distinctive supervision and tutorial systems,
providing student bursaries, and maintaining the College's buildings are
increasing. The income Clare receives from the government in tuition fees covers
barely two-thirds of the cost of undergraduate education; and Clare receives no
financial aid towards maintaining its Grade 1 historic buildings for the benefit
of the nation.
To remain a
centre of excellence, welcoming and supporting talented students from all
backgrounds, Clare must diversify and increase its income streams. Donations
from alumni and well-wishers represent an increasingly important source of
funding. Together with the interest on the College’s historic endowment (gifts
made by previous generations), they make up over 50% of Clare’s operating
income.
There are many important charitable causes which you may wish to support,
but please consider making Clare a priority. The College exists to educate the
brightest young people; Clare graduates contribute immensely to national and
international life, to our economic and cultural strength, and to the
advancement of knowledge.
You are warmly invited to explore these pages and join
this vital endeavour.
