Clare is very fortunate to have generous and engaged alumni and friends who have always supported the College with their gifts, their expertise and their time. In fact, combined with the interest on Clare’s historic endowment (created by gifts of previous generations) the donations from our alumni and friends make up 50% of the College’s annual operating income.
Without this support, Clare would not be the College it is today.
As we look to the future it is clear that we face many challenges. Cuts in government grants to Universities and higher undergraduate tuition fees have increased pressure on our student support and teaching funds significantly. We also remain committed to sustaining our excellent supervision system and maintaining the College’s beautiful Grade 1 listed buildings and grounds, for which we receive no financial subsidy.
Our goals are simple and achievable:
• Continue to attract the brightest and the best to study at Clare, whatever their background, through access and outreach work across the UK and the provision of support to any student in financial need.
• Continue to provide exceptional teaching and pastoral care to all Clare students.
• Preserve the College buildings and grounds for the benefit of future generations.
With your help, Clare can achieve all this, and more. Any contribution you are able to offer – be it financial or ‘in kind’, substantial or modest - will take us one step closer to our goals.
I hope you will join us.
