Alumni Council and Year-Group Representatives
What is the Alumni Council?
Clare now has one of the most representative mechanisms in Cambridge for alumni involvement in College affairs, following the establishment of the new Alumni Council. The Council replaces the committee of the Clare Association, and takes over the functions of the Association AGM. Crucially, its composition will give a stronger voice to a more diverse and representative cross-section of alumni than ever before.
At the heart of the Alumni Council are the Year Group Representatives, one from each matriculation year and the Development Office are greatly aided in their work by the Year Group Rep network. Year Group Reps are now elected by the Clare Ambassadors Committee and serve members of their matriculation year. They are joined by representatives of special-interest organisations (the Boat Club and the Friends of Clare Choir), a current undergraduate and a graduate student, and up to four co-opted members to ensure that the Council accurately reflects the interests of the whole Clare alumni community.
The Alumni Council's remit is to represent the interests of alumni in the affairs of the College; to give advice on recent and planned alumni activities; and to publish an annual report to all Clare members in the Clare Annual. It is chaired by the Master or his elected deputy. All nominated Council members serve for a period of three years, with the possibility of re-nomination.
All members are warmly encouraged to participate in the Council's activities and make their voices heard.
