Alumni Information
Below is a list of benefits for alumni of Clare College. An 'alumnus' is defined as a member of the College who has matriculated as an undergraduate or graduate student and who is no longer in residence.
Room Bookings
Alumni are welcome to book rooms for overnight accommodation at Clare using the following link. Bookings are managed by the Conference Department and are subject to availability.
Alumni are invited to their first Reunion Dinner approximately 12 years after matriculation, and thereafter, every 10 years. Events take place on a Friday evening, with free accommodation in Memorial Court. Pre-dinner drinks are served in the SCR followed by dinner in Hall. Reunions are Black Tie occasions and, unlike most other alumni events, are not open to spouses or partners due to space restrictions in the Hall. Those eligible will be sent invitations in advance and dates are published in the biannual Clare News, the e-newsletter and the Clare Association Annual and Clare News at least one year in advance. For a list of dates, please go to the Reunion Dinners section of this site.
Dining Rights
Alumni are able to dine once a term on High Table free of charge and may dine on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings during Full Term (see term dates) , subject to availability. You may bring a guest at own expense. Bookings must be made in advance with the Fellows' Butler, Peter Allinson.
Members' Card
If you have not received a Members' Card, please get in touch with the Development Office. When you visit Cambridge, the card entitles you and your guests to come into the College and its gardens free of charge. It will also allow you similar access to most other Cambridge colleges which charge for admission during the tourist season. If you lose the card, please contact the Development Office and we will be happy to issue you with a replacement. We hope that you will come back from time to time and that you will bring your friends and family to see the College and gardens.
Clare City Network
The Clare City Network is the group for Clare alumni living and/or working in London, with a particular focus on alumni working in the City (financial services, professional services and the legal profession). Under the auspices of the Clare City Network, the College organises an annual Clare City Dinner in a prominent London venue, together with a series of breakfast and evening speaker meetings on topics of general interest to a City audience. Clare City Network events are advertised on the main Events page of the alumni website, and by email to members of the City Network mailing list. To join the mailing list, please email the Development Office. City Network events are free of charge to Clare alumni; non-alumni guests are welcome at speaker events, subject to the availability of places, at a charge of £10 per person.
MA
Most alumni may take their MA degree six years and one term after matriculation. It may be taken in absence or in person, on a variety of dates during the course of the year. Currently, there is a small administrative charge to receive your MA. The College hosts an MA Lunch which coincides with the March Congregation. Those eligible will be sent invitations in advance but this information is provided to the Colleges by Old Schools at the University and thus we are dependent on their time-scales.
The Forbes Mellon Library and Clare College Archive
The Forbes Mellon Library is occasionally available for use by alumni at the discretion of the Librarian or her Deputy. Please email the library and they will try to accommodate you. The Archive at Clare aims to preserve the documentary evidence for the history and life of the College. This includes records of its administration and finances, land and property ownership and individual members of College. The Edgar Bowring Archivist is happy to answer alumni queries about the archive. If you have any accessions for the Archive, please fill in the following form for the Archivist. Please visit the Archive webpages for further information.
