Henry Thirkill Memorial Bursaries

The Henry Thirkill Memorial Bursaries were established in April 2010 as a lasting memorial to Sir Henry Thirkill, who was successively Fellow, (Senior) Tutor and Master of Clare.

'Thirks' interviewed every Clare student for admission over a period of nearly thirty years, and took a keen interest in their subsequent development. Henry Thirkill, more than most, helped to make Clare the College it is today.

The Henry Thirkill Memorial Bursaries were conceived by alumni from 1956 and 1957, and subsequently supported by members from all the generations admitted to Clare by Henry Thirkill. Thanks to their generosity, the Fund has reached double its initial target. It will therefore enable Clare to provide two bursaries of £2,000 a year, in perpetuity, to students in financial need. Preference will be given in making the awards to students whom the College judges will take advantage of all the opportunities of a Cambridge education and make the most of their time at Clare.

If you would like to support the Henry Thirkill Memorial Bursaries, your gift will be very welcome. Information on making a gift may be found here.
